lr. Grabow: Member of European Parliament Undine von Blottnitz from Grabow received the Order of Merit in Brussels on wednesday. The president of European Parliament Klaus Hänsch, who presented the medal awarded by Federal President Roman Herzog, appreciated the "great engagement" of the local politician on environment. He stressed that she had "deserved well especially of the mediation of basic democratic rights". During the presentation Undine von Blottnitz explained that she took the honouring "on behalf of the resistance against nuclear power usage" (see article EJZ 30.11.96). In the course of the following ceremony she refered to the irony, that Federal President Roman Herzog had honoured with her one of those demonstrators too, whose names were blackened by Interior Minister Kanther an "off-putting rabble".
